Kihon Waza = Basic Techniques

Never Back Down 3

We had a very good day. Maybe not everyone had a good day, as a few late comers had to do dozens of push ups. We started the day by doing our daily routine of bowing with respect to one another along with reciting our oath & creed. We were then taught techniques called Kihon Waza -  Blocking and counterattacking techniques as well as everything that goes with it.

Then we watched the film, Never Back Down 3: Never Surrender. It was a very good movie that I personally enjoyed. The story involved Mixed Martial Arts. We saw that in order to do martial arts, you need to give up a lot of things so that you can concentrate on what you need to achieve. You can’t have a lot of issues on your mind and still expect positive results. One would also have to leave the outside issues out side. Stuff like girlfriends and family because they take up most of your precious time. You also need to be fearless, because if you let fear into your mind, then you won't be able to perform anything. Instead you start looking for excuses.

As we saw in the movie, the three-time world champion was focusing on previous matches of his upcoming opponent instead of concentrating his own fighting skills and conditioning. His trainer ended up, taking the fight and he destroyed the giant with ease and effortless movement.

After lunch we went through the several movements and blocks again like shuto uke (knife hand block) and a few of the movements that we saw in the movie.
